Lessons from running it on real images

  • Hair and fur are the honest test. High precision holds most of a hairline; Fast will flatten it into a solid outline, so do not switch models to save a second on a portrait.
  • Contact shadows read as background. An object sitting flat on a surface usually loses its shadow at the base - lift it a few centimetres when you shoot and the cut is cleaner.
  • Glass, acrylic and anything reflective is the genuine failure case, for this and for every other automatic tool. A matte, contrasting backdrop helps more than any setting does.
  • The first image of a session is slow because the model downloads to your browser. Every image after it is fast, and so is the next visit - the browser caches it normally.
  • For marketplaces, cut out to transparent and then pick White: the fill is exactly #FFFFFF, which is what Amazon asks for, and you can still download the transparent version for everything else.

How is it different from other background removers?

Most online background removers upload your image to a server and run the model there. nobg.cc runs the model in your browser instead, so nothing is uploaded. The trade-off is a one-time model download before the first image.

How does nobg.cc remove image backgrounds?

nobg.cc runs an on-device neural segmentation model (ISNet) that detects the main subject of an image and removes everything else. The process is fully automated and runs in your browser - no manual editing and no server upload.

What image formats are supported?

nobg.cc supports the most common image formats, including PNG, JPG / JPEG and WebP. Download the result as PNG to keep a transparent background, or pick White or any colour and download a JPG.

How long does it take to remove a background from an image?

Most images process in a few seconds. The first image is slower because the model has to download to your browser; your browser then keeps it in its normal HTTP cache, so repeat visits skip that step. Switching to a different model downloads that one once too.

Can I change how it processes?

Yes. Under Options you can pick the model - High precision (the default, best for fine edges like hair), Standard, or Fast (smallest download, quickest) - and force CPU instead of GPU. After the cut-out you can keep the background transparent or fill it with white or any colour, and download a lossless PNG or a JPG.

What types of images work best?

It works well with product photos, portraits and people, logos, and objects. Images with a clear subject and good contrast against the background produce the cleanest cut-outs.

Are my images uploaded, stored or shared?

No. Background removal runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Your image is never uploaded to a server, never stored, and never shared with anyone. Close the tab and it is gone.

Can I use the images for commercial purposes?

Yes. Images processed with nobg.cc can be used for personal and commercial projects, including e-commerce, advertising, websites and social media.

What should I do if the result is not accurate?

Make sure Options is still set to the High precision model - it is the default, but Standard and Fast trade edge detail for speed. Beyond that, a higher-resolution image with better contrast between the subject and the background is what helps most. Reflective objects and very busy backgrounds are the hardest cases.
